Denturists: Alternative Healthcare Providers for Oral Health Screenings and Referrals

Denturists, when seeing denture patients, recognize unhealthy tissue and refer their patients to a dentist. Dentists refer patients in need of denture care to denturists for the time consuming denture delivery process, leaving precious chair time for restorative and cosmetic dentistry. Denture patients need time to be educated and walked through the denture process. At times, adjustments are needed weekly.

It does start out as a definite conflict of interest between denturists and dentists. However, like in other regulated states, denturists and dentists work together to provide services to patients. Denturism is another health care profession which is able to screen for healthy tissues and offer referral services for those that limit their visits to see dentists because of cost, time, and/or no natural dentition.

Some of you in the profession of Denture Lab Technology are due to expand your education qualifications to include the science of the denture delivery process. Some of you do dentures for family and friends. For those of you that decide being a professional denturist is not what you want, there will be a number of patients as in other professions that will insist on going to the dentist for their denture care. Possibly more dentists will keep their denture work in the state.
